Are We Winning Yet?

As the graphic above demonstrates, the w3cschools survey estimates that total Firefox installs has surpassed the Microsoft IE usage. When I say "We Won", I mean everybody. Microsoft is forced to evaluate its position and offerings in the browser market; users are no longer tied to an OS based on its web browser; and of course Firefox users get to say "Suck it Bill" (even though Bill has moved on.)

Or Did We?

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/browser-market-share.aspx?qprid=0 pegs the Microsoft market at 66%. Wikipedia likes these numbers -- for whatever that means. Whatever the truth is, remember that the browser is not a microsoft product -- it is a microsoft marketing tool for thier real products, Office and Windows/Vista. And just like McNuggets, people will scarf these down til their asses bleed for the forseeable future, at least in the US. China and Europe have different levels of respect for Microsoft -- because, well, they are smarter. So I would expect that we are looking at a split market for the forseeable future. Suck it, developers, we're in for more of the same.
