Top Ten Reasons Not To End It All in 2010

I know things suck. Here are a few things to look forward to in 2010 that will hopefully give you a reason to take that shotgun out of your face and give the new year a shot.

  1. Apple might come out with a tablet. Also the AT&T contractual monopoly on iPhones is up for review.
  2. Sarah Palin is bound to do something unthinkably stupid and hilarious. Possibly many things.
  3. This will be the year of Olivia Munn's move to full frontal nudity
  4. Cheney is poised to strike. Its up to you to stop him.
  5. You need to upgrade your viruses to make them Windows 7 compatible.
  6. Revenge.
  7. Obama is still President. I know he has yet to part the Red Sea, but every second he puts between you and the final days of George Bush is a good one.
  8. Avatar. You can see it as many times as you want.
  9. There are a lot of houses without owners. This means if you don't have a home, but you have a job, sooner or later the market has to come up with terms you can live with.
  10. Everyone is making Hybrids and green cars. That means that sooner or later you will be able to get a hybrid or even an electric car that is not an overpriced monster with no rear visibility and lousy acceleration.

Seriously: there has been no suckage of reasons to get down on life the last few years. I am fortunate enough to have career insulation but I have unfond memories of the last recession. All I can say if you are not working is, find something you love doing but never took the time to do when you were working. Or someone. The best things in life are expensive, but there are a lot of good things you can do even on a shoestring budget, and if you have a few talented friends who are also on the skids, form a mutual exploitation society and find some way to make yourselves useful and productive and possibly wealthy.

For those of you fortunate enough to be still working or better yet newly employed, enjoy your success: its your duty! You are better informed than your parents, are able to expand your social network far further than you could have (easily) even three years ago, will probably live til you're eighty if you kick the death sticks and get a bit of exercise now and then. Life is not perfect, but it is pretty good and generally speaking does get better more often than it gets worse.
